Description
To walk down the main street of Maldon is a trip into the rich history of the halcyon days of the 1800s Victorian gold rush era. Depicted is part of an 1870s building that is now a bric-a-brac/antiques shop. The original faded sign painted on the corrugated iron wall reads 'DABB & CO CHAFF STORE CORN CRUSHING'.
The town of Maldon is located in an historical gold mining region between the larger centres of Castlemaine and Bendigo. It has been perfectly preserved since its mining days dating from the 1850s and is Australia's first 'Notable Town' - classified by the National Trust in 1966.
